DeMarcus Morrison, who played for the Cougars' men's basketball team from 1996-2000, set numerous records on the court and finished his career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,937 points. Morrison still holds several other program records for rebounds, steals and free throws. He earned numerous awards, including 1998 NABC Second Team All-American, 1997-98 Conference Player of the Year, 1996-97 Conference Rookie of the Year, USA South All-Conference First Team (1997-98, 1998-99), All-Conference Second Team (1999-2000) and Conference All-Tournament Team (1999, 2000).
Morrison played professionally after finishing his career at Averett. He completed his degree from Averett in 2009.
Morrison was inducted into the Averett Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 2, 2010. He was also named to the USA South Conference's 50th Anniversary men's basketball team in 2013-14.
