Averett University Athletics has partnered with Bon Appetit to introduce Ave and Rett's Cat-Eye Grill to accommodate fans and students at home football games.
 
The grill, named after Averett's two mascots, will open three hours prior to the start of every home football game at Daly Field. Fans no longer have to worry about bringing food while they tailgate, instead, they can purchase food and beverages from the grill. This is the first time the department of athletics has been able to provide dining options in the tailgate area.
 
"For us, this is the next evolution of where Averett football home games are going," said Meg Stevens, Averett's Director of Athletics. "This puts at a whole new level of football tailgating."
 
Another benefit of this new addition to the game day experience is that Averett students, staff and faculty can also enjoy a meal at the Cat-Eye Grill. In the past, students had to decide between attending a football game and making it to the dining hall in time for a meal but not anymore. Just like Averett's Dining Hall, anyone who has a meal plan with the university can use "swipes" to purchase a meal from the Cat-Eye Grill and also enjoy the game.
 
"This is a big advantage that a lot of institutions don't have, and I think this puts us in a league of our own in terms of our sister institutions," Stevens said.
 
The grill will close at the start of each game.
