Averett freshman softball player Jessica Long was named the USA South Conference's Rookie of the Week on Monday. The outfielder from nearby Prospect Hill, N.C., went a combined 6-for-11 (.545) with three runs scored, two RBI, two doubles, two walks and two stolen bases as the Cougars began the season with a 2-2 record. In two losses versus nationally-ranked Emory University, Long was a combined 3-for-6 with one double. In two non-conference wins over Maryville College, Long was a combined 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI, one double, two walks and two stolen bases.
