Men's wrestling graduate student Alex Turner was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Wrestler of the Week for heavier weights on Jan. 9. Turley, a native of Chester, Virginia, rejoined the Cougars' roster for the start of the second semester and his final semester of competition. In his first action since competing at the NCAA Division III national championships last spring, Turley went 3-0 at 174 pounds for Averett at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals on Jan. 6-7. Turley won by a 10-4 decision over Luther College's Braeden Hendel, then won by fall (1:13) against the University of Mount Union's Caleb Zimmerman as the Cougars knocked off the 20th-ranked Purple Raiders. He finished his weekend with a 20-4 win by tech fall over the University of Dubuque's Thomas McCreadie.
