Football freshman safety Ronnie Beatty's first quarter interception return helped set up a touchdown that gave Averett a valuable 17-0 lead early at N.C. Wesleyan College. The Cougars won 38-34. Beatty earned USA South Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week honors.
