Erica Skiddle Smith

Erica Skiddle Smith was named the Averett University cheerleading head coach in May 2019 after serving as a volunteer assistant coach in 2018-19. Smith cheered for four years with the Cougars as a student.

Smith coached Averett to a second-place finish at the 2020 Christian Cheerleaders of America Nationals. Prior to that, in one season as an assistant coach with the program, she helped guide Averett to a second consecutive CCA grand national championship and a first-place finish at the Clash of the Carolinas.

Smith was a team captain and helped the Cougars become the 2018 CCA National Champions and Collegiate Grand Champions during her senior season at Averett. A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Smith earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors. She was also named the Dan River Nonprofit Network's Volunteer of the Year in December 2016.

Smith graduated from Averett in May 2018 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She resides in Danville with her husband Mitchell, who played men's soccer at Averett. She teaches at Chatham Middle School.
