Carrington Gym (Recreation)

The Carrington Gym is located on Main Campus below the Viola T. Frith Fine Arts Center. Renovated in 2016 with new hardwood flooring and wall padding, the gym serves as a recreational area for Averett students, faculty and staff. Carrington is home to Averett University’s intramural sports and recreation programs, mainly basketball and volleyball.

The gym has two sets of bleachers aligned with the length of the court for spectators to watch and enjoy events in a friendly, competitive and fun atmosphere. It is open from 6 a.m. to midnight. To ensure the safety of Averett students, faculty and staff, all personnel wishing to enter the gym are required to have a school ID. The gym is always locked, therefore everyone is forced to use an electronic keypad and specific code provided to each person connected with university in order to enter.

Originally built in 1955, Carrington Gym served as the home to Averett basketball and volleyball prior to the E. Stuart James Grant Center's construction in 1998. Teams have occasionally used Carrington Gym as an alternative practice facility when commencement and other events are being held in the Grant Center.
