DANVILLE, Va. — Freshmen Pernilla Milton and Sandra Johansson each scored goals as Averett defeated Greensboro College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Den.

Averett (7-2, 3-1 USA South), which has now won three in a row, took a 1-0 lead just 16 minutes in when Milton scored on an assist from freshman Felicia Pajamaki. Milton, who has six goals this season, has scored four goals in the last three games for the Cougars.

That lead held up by halftime, and Averett added to it early in the second half. Johansson scored off a pass from freshman Maliha Ataullah in the 57th minute to put the Cougars ahead 2-0.

Greensboro (6-3-1, 2-1-1 USA South) broke through with a goal by Sarah Lang in the 67th minute. Lang had 10 of the Pride's 16 shots, including five on goal. However, Averett junior goalkeeper Samantha Lupo stopped all but one of them. Lupo finished with seven saves.

Averett returns to action on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C.
