Averett football travels to Greensboro, N.C., to play Guilford College on Saturday at 7 p.m. It is the final non-conference game on Averett's schedule.
Live audio-only coverage on the Averett Sports Network will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m. (see link to the right).
THE GAME
• Averett (0-2, 0-0 USA South) enters today's non-onference game with Guilford College (1-1, 0-0 ODAC) coming off a heart-breaking 15-7 home loss to Randolph-Macon College last weekend. Guilford, meanwhile, is coming off a 40-22 road loss at Methodist University.
THE SERIES
• Averett holds a 6-1 advantage in its series with Guilford. The Cougars have won the last three meetings, including last season's 45-9 victory in Danville. Averett is 2-1 against the Quakers in games played in Greensboro, N.C.
NOTABLE
• Sophomore wide receiver
Joe McCaul is coming off a career-best performance against Randolph-Macon. McCaul reeled in five catches for 61 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown reception for his first career score.
• Averett's offense has been limited to 16 total points after two games, something that has been uncharacteristic of the Cougars offense. The last time Averett was limited to 16 points or less after two games was in 2003, when the Cougars totaled 13 points through the first two contests.
• Freshman linebacker
Casey Kessler has record a sack in each of Averett's first two games despite coming off the bench.
• Averett is 8-9 all-time against teams from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Averett went 2-1 against the ODAC in 2010. The Cougars are currently 0-2 versus the ODAC this season after losses to Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon.
• All three of Averett's non-conference games this season are against the ODAC, the fourth consecutive season that has happened.
