DEMOREST, Ga. — Piedmont College defeated the Averett University women's soccer team 2-0 in conference play on Saturday afternoon.

Currently ranked first in the conference standings, Piedmont (13-4-1, 9-1-1 USA South) took the lead midway through the first half. Savannah Castles found Shayna Rogers at the top of the box, and the senior midfielder netted the ball for a 1-0 advantage over Averett (4-7, 4-12 USA South).

Piedmont stretched the lead to 2-0 late in the second period when Castles connected with Tristian Bailey who booted the ball into the goal.

The Lions outshot the Cougars 15-2, with both of Averett's shots coming in the first period from freshman midfielder
Amanda Gustavsson, and Averett's goalkeeper
Kim Josephson collected three saves.

The Cougars return to Daly Field for their last game of the season to take on William Peace University at 7 p.m. Averett will also celebrate its senior night.
