GREENSBORO, N.C. — Freshmen
Sarah Smoot and
Hannah Shields each finished with more than 20 kills as Averett University defeated Greensboro College 3-0 in USA South Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night. The Cougars won their conference regular season finale 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22.
Smoot and Shields totaled 23 kills and 22 kills respectively as Averett (21-12, 15-4 USA South) tallied a .238 team hitting percentage or better in each of its four sets. Shields had a double-double with her 18 digs. Freshman
Christiana Summa added 13 digs and senior
Nicole Barringer had 41 assists and eight digs. Junior
Leslie Fulton chipped in with five total blocks and five kills to aid the Cougars.
With the win, Averett swept the regular season series with Greensboro (16-13, 8-9 USA South).
Although Averett has completed its conference schedule, seedings for the USA South Conference Tournament will not be finalized until the rest of the conference finishes league play this weekend. Averett travels to Salem, Virginia, to take on Roanoke College and Virginia Wesleyan College in non-conference action Saturday to end the regular season.
