LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University volleyball cruised past Bridgewater College 3-0, but lost 3-0 to host Lynchburg College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Against Bridgewater, Averett (12-11) won 25-22, 25-14 and 25-18 to open the day. The Cougars hit .268 as a team with 13 service aces in the victory against Bridgewater (6-14). Freshman
Hannah Shields paced Averett with 21 kills and eight digs. Junior
Leslie Fulton added five kills and freshman
Christiana Summa led the team with 14 digs. Senior setter
Nicole Barringer made 29 assists and freshman
Jessica Sheek led the squad with five service aces.
The Cougars couldn't find the same rhythm against Lynchburg (10-9), falling 25-15, 25-16 and 25-17. Shields had a team-high 17 kills and freshman
Sarah Smoot added seven kills. Summa finished with 12 digs and Barringer had 26 assists.
Averett travels to play conference foe Methodist University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
