FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Methodist University defeated the Averett University women's soccer team 2-0 in a conference matchup on Friday afternoon.

For the first time in her collegiate career,
Kim Josephson played goalkeeper for the Cougars and denied nine shots on goal from the Monarchs (2-5, 1-0 USA South).

Kim Josephson jumped in the goal and was outstanding."

Josephson, a sophomore who usually plays the forward position, stepped in for starting keeper
Ashley Jones who suffered an injury just two minutes before game time.

Despite Josephson's stellar goalie debut, Taylor Cavazos booted the ball past her and into the net on a dish from Victoria Martins a 1-0 Methodist lead at the 17
th minute mark. The second goal came in the 59
th minute when Martin and Cavazos connected again, this time on a goal for Martin. Â

Averett (0-8, 0-2 USA South) returns to Danville for its home opener against Greensboro College on Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.
