LAGRANGE, Ga. — Strikes from freshman
David Cuperman and senior
Jordan Palma provided the Averett University men's soccer team with a pair of first-half goals and the Cougars cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 victory over LaGrange College in conference action.
Palma turned in a pass from sophomore
Tobias Andreasson and lashed in a shot to give Averett (4-8, 3-2 USA South) an early 1-0 lead 23 minutes into the contest. Not wasting any time, Cuperman took the ball down the field three minutes later and gave the Cougars a two-goal advantage over the Panthers with his second goal of the weekend.
LaGrange (1-12, 0-6 USA South) started off the second half strong, cutting its deficit down to one when Daniel Provence took a pass from Raymond Hass and tapped in his attempt at the 54:22 mark. Not discouraged, Cuperman added his second goal of the match when he received a dish from freshman
Felix Squire and buried the ball into the back of the net to push Averett's advantage back to two with just over 30-minutes left in the match. The Cougars put the game out of reach when Andreasson and Palma hooked up again, leading to Palma's second goal at the 73:39 mark to give Averett a 4-1 lead.
Cuperman recorded the first multi-goal game of his career, while Palma chipped in with his second of the season to pace Averett offensively. Andreasson shined as well providing two assists on the afternoon.
The Cougars dominated the offensive side of the pitch, outshooting the Panthers 20-9. Andreasson led the way with five, while Palma added four and Cuperman chipped in with three.
Averett will have a three-day rest before traveling to Ferrum, Virginia, to take on Ferrum College on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
