DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball had little trouble against Greensboro College, sweeping the Pride 3-0 in the Cougars' regular season home finale on Wednesday night at the Grant Center. Averett (23-9, 15-2 USA South) won 25-17, 25-11 and 25-19 as the Cougars donned pink accessories and warm-ups for its Dig Pink match to suppor the fight against cancer.
Senior
Katelyn Holley helped Averett pull away in the opening set. With the Cougars leading 16-11 and Holley serving, Averett rattled off six consecutive points to extend its advantage to 22-12 before finishing off Greensboro (7-21, 3-14 USA South). The second set nearly mirrored the first. With Averett ahead 16-10 and Holley serving, the Cougars won nine straight points to get them to set point. Two plays later, sophomore
Jessica Sheek got the kill to put Averett in front 2-0 in the match.
Averett cruised for most of the third set, but had to weather a late Greensboro rally to complete the sweep over the Pride. The Cougars also beat 3-2 on Oct. 1 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Hannah Shields led Averett with 13 kills, while fellow sophomore

Lindsey Boles and freshman
Keenan Marks totaling 10 digs apieace. Holley had nine digs and a team-best three service aces. Marks also finished with 28 assists.
Averett finishes its USA South Conference schedule Saturday with matches against William Peace University and N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. One win would clinch at least a share of the USA South North Division crown, while two wins with give Averett the North Division title outright.
