CARY, N.C. — Freshman forward
Skye Gunn scored two goals on Thursday evening to help the Averett University women's soccer team net a 5-1 conference victory in its season finale over William Peace University.
Â
Junior midfielder
Annalies Jobsis sparked the scoring for Averett (3-11-2, 3-8-1 USA South) when she fired the ball into the back of the net in the first half on a feed from sophomore midfielder
Amanda Gustavsson. Both teams were scoreless for the remainder of the first period, but freshman
Leslie Franks found Gunn open on the right to put the Cougars up 2-0 midway through the second frame.
Â
William Peace (6-11-2, 4-8 USA South) answered with a goal from Janae Mays, but couldn't keep the Cougars out of scoring range. At the 72:01 mark, Gunn churned out another goal on a free kick from 18 yards out. She went 2-for-3 to tie Gustavsson as both players now lead the squad with six goals each.
Â
Just 38 seconds later, junior midfielder
Johanna Ohrnberg netted her fifth goal of the season with an assist from
Pippa Burge, and junior midfielder
Riley Smith collected a loose ball in the box to notch the fifth goal in the final two minutes, ending the Cougars' season on a positive note.Â
