GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Averett University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Greensboro College in a conference match on Saturday afternoon.

Averett (1-7-1, 1-4-0 USA South) held off Greensboro's offense for the majority of the first half, but Greensboro (6-3-0, 2-2-0 USA South) scored in the 38th minute on a goal from Melanie Raton to put the Pride ahead 1-0 going into the break. Greensboro netted another goal on Samara Alba's penalty kick early in the second half to extend its lead to 2-0 and claim the conference victory.

Despite the loss, the Cougar backline worked to deny the Pride easy shots in the box, limiting Greensboro's shots on target to 11 out of 25. Averett's sophomore goalkeeper
Bailee Brown finished with nine saves.

The Cougars have a week to recuperate before heading to Montgomery, Alabama, to play conference foe Huntingdon College on Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.
