DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball dominated Bridgewater College 3-0 on Friday night at the Grant Center. The Cougars won their non-conference match over the Eagles 25-18, 25-19 and 25-20.
Averett (10-7) hit .312 as a team, including .448 in the second set as the Cougars tallied 38 kills over the three sets. Sophomore
Hannah Shields led the attack with 18 kills to go with five digs, while freshman
Jordan Pitzer finished with 10 kills. Sophomore Christian Summa and senior
Katelyn Holley had eight digs and five digs, respectively, and sophomore
Jessica Sheek had a team-high four service aces.
The win over Bridgewater (2-11) served as a warm-up for Averett's USA South Conference quad match, which the Cougars host on Saturday. Averett plays Methodist University at 10 a.m. and Meredith College at 4 p.m. In between, Ferrum College faces Meredith at 12 p.m. and Methodist at 2 p.m.
