MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Maryville College recorded five second-half goals to lead the Scots to a 7-1 victory over the Averett University men's soccer team on Friday afternoon.
Facing only a 2-0 deficit heading into the half, Averett (6-10, 5-4 USA South) had difficulty keeping Maryville (11-2, 6-1 USA South) off the board in the second period. Caleb Lucas scored his conference-leading 16th goal of the season in the 53rd minute give Maryville a three-goal advantage.
The Scots would go on to score four goals over the span of the next 37 minutes to run away with the win.
Averett got on the board in the 88th minute when junior
Tobias Andreasson flicked in a free kick by freshman Phillip Marklund to prevent the shutout for the Cougars.
Second-year freshman
Austin Bramhall picked up eight saves on the afternoon to lead the Cougars defensively.
The Cougars return to the pitch on Oct. 19 when they host John Wesley University at 7 p.m. on Daly Field.
