DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's soccer team defeated Greensboro College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in conference action at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

Senior forward
Annalies Jobsis put Averett (7-6, 5-4 USA South) in front of the Pride with a breakaway goal. Jobsis shook a defender on the right side to get a bit of room, and her shot found the upper left of the net in the 15th minute as she scored her 12th goal of the season. Freshman midfielder
T'era Brown built on the Cougars' lead just two minutes before halftime. Sophomore midfielder
Skye Gunn launched a long ball from the left side that connected with Brown running up the middle. As Greensboro's goalie came out to contest her shot, Brown slid the ball past her to give the Cougars a cushion going into the break.

Later on, Greensboro (9-4-2, 5-4-2 USA South) managed to notch a goal in the 70th minute to close the gap. Caitlyn Cook found Devin D'Agostin in the middle of the field, directly in front of the goal, putting the Pride within one point. Despite three more attempts to knot the match, Averett's defense held strong as sophomore goalkeeper
Bailee Brown came up big with two saves to solidify a win for the Cougars during Averett's Homecoming.

The Cougars also declared Saturday's match as its Military Appreciation Game. During halftime, the team honored players and parents who have served and currently serve in the Armed Forces.
Â
Averett returns to action Sunday, Oct. 16, to host William Peace University at 1 p.m. The Cougars defeated William Peace 4-0 earlier in the season.
