— Averett University volleyball swept through N.C. Wesleyan College 3-0 on Thursday night for the Cougars' 20th win of the season. Averett knocked off their conference foe 25-19, 25-19, 25-16.
Averett (20-7, 12-0 USA South) stayed unbeaten in conference play by tallying a .248 hitting percentage and notching eight service aces. The Cougars' offense was led by junior
Hannah Shields' double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs. Junior
Sarah Smoot and freshman
Brianna Williams each finished with nine kills, while sophomore
Keenan Marks totaled 37 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore
Emily Stanley led the team in digs with 13.
With the win, the Cougars gave head coach
Danny Miller his 21st 20-win season in 22 years.
Averett returns to action on Saturday when the Cougars travel to Bridgewater College for a non-conference tri-match with Bridgewater and Guilford College.
