DANVILLE, Va. — Ferrum College used Payton Stuart's 15th goal of the season to defeat the Averett women's soccer team 1-0 in double overtime on Sunday at Daly Field.

After a 106-minute stalemate, Stuart took a ball, while streaking down the left wing and finished her shot from 20-yards out into the top right corner to lift Ferrum (11-6-2, 9-3-2 USA South) to the victory.

Despite the loss, Averett (9-9, 7-7 USA South) earned the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Division for the upcoming USA South Conference Tournament, which begins Wednesday. The Cougars will travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to do battle with the East's No. 4 seed N.C. Wesleyan College on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Averett had a couple of opportunities to find the golden goal in the first overtime period. Senior
Johanna Ohrnberg blasted a shot in the 93rd minute, but the Panthers' Taylor Dodson was there to make the save.

Annalies Jobsis had a rip on goal, but Ferrum's defense was there to block the shot and keep the game scoreless.

The Cougars' offense came out firing on all cylinders over the first 20 minutes of the second half. Averett outshot Ferrum 7-3 to open the second period, but the Panthers' defense found a way to prevent the Cougars from getting on the board.Â

Averett posted 24 shots on goal in the contest. Jobsis led the charge with 13 attempts, while sophomore
Skye Gunn chipped in with four. Ohrnberg chipped in with three.Â
