DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball remained unbeaten in USA South Conference play with a 3-0 win over Greensboro College on Wednesday night at the Grant Center. The Cougars won 25-19, 25-13, 25-15.
The win set up a showdown between the conference's last two unbeaten teams on Saturday when Averett (23-9, 14-0 USA South) will play host to Meredith College (22-2, 14-0 USA South) in the regular season finale. The winner of Saturday's matchup will earn the East Division's regular season crown and earn the right to host throughout the USA South Tournament
Against Greensboro (18-11, 8-6 USA South), Averett hit .288 as a team to cruise past the Pride. Junior
Hannah Shields led the way with 16 kills and nine digs, while freshman
Brianna Williams finished with 12 kills, seven digs and two block assists. Sophomore
Emily Stanley had a team-high 10 kills, with junior
Christiana Summa and sophomore
Keenan Marks each totaling eight digs. Marks also had 39 assists.
Averett hosts Meredith on Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Grant Center. The Cougars will celebrate seniors
Brittany Daley and
Ali Wall prior to the match.
