The Cougars shot 50 percent from long range in the first half to hang tight with the Maroons. DeLucia nailed three 3's to help pace the Cougars' attack in the first period. After John Caldwell's triple gave Roanoke a six-point advantage, DeLucia hammered home a 3 to get Averett within three at the 7:29 mark. Minutes later, C.J. Miles converted his layup to give Roanoke a 34-29 lead, but DeLucia drilled another triple to shrink the Cougars' deficit down to two. However, the Maroons closed out the period on an 11-2 run to take a double-digit lead into the break.
Averett had three players finish in double-digit scoring. DeLucia led the way with 19, while junior
