DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's basketball team came out on top in a 66-62 victory over Randolph College on Friday night at the Grant Center.
Â
Averett (7-4) kept the game close throughout the first and second period but struggled to get ahead. The Cougars got over the hump when senior center
Jonna Koski kicked the ball out to the perimeter for junior guard
Frida Lundquist to nail 3-pointer, putting Averett up 36-35 with 5:59 to go in the third quarter. The Wildcats (6-5) tried to regain the lead, but the Cougars' defense remained solid as they didn't trail again after Lundquist's shot.
Â
Sophomore point guard
Alixis Roccia shot 6-for-9 from the field and hit four of five 3-pointers to help Averett seal the win with 16 points. Lundquist and junior shooting guard
Samm Chandler also put up double digits, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively. Koski led the Cougars on the boards with eight rebounds. Â
