DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's basketball team snagged a 98-43 conference victory over Mary Baldwin College on Saturday afternoon at the Grant Center.

Averett (13-11, 8-7 USA South) pulled ahead early in the first quarter when sophomore guard
Joelle Deese made a steal that turned into a fast-break layup for junior guard
Ariana Covington, who ended the afternoon with 10 points.

The Cougars continued to run past Mary Baldwin (0-23, 0-14) and took a commanding 44-19 lead on a 3-pointer from senior guard
Jessica Myers going into halftime, and she hit another triple coming out the break to keep Averett's rhythm going in the third quarter. Along with Covington, Myers was one of five Cougars to score in double figures. She finished with 14 points and five assists. Â Â

Alixis Roccia scored a layup in transition to give the Cougars an 89-34 lead, their largest of the game.

Frida Lundquist led Averett with a career-high 21 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to secure her second career double-double. Freshman guard
Shannon Longworth finished with 12 points while sophomore shooting guard
Samm Chandler put up 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Senior forward
Oneka Jones added nine rebounds for the Cougars, and Deese dished out a career-high of five assists.

Averett returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 21, to host Meredith College at 2 p.m. at the Grant Center in its last home game of the season. The Cougars will also celebrate their Senior Day on Sunday to honor Myers and Jones.
