Second Round
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Averett University golf team improved its score by 10-strokes to finish the second round of the USA South Conference Tournament held Saturday at Benvenue Country Club.
The Cougars turned in a 34-over-par 654 on the par-72, 6,525-yard course to finish the second day of the tournament in eighth place. Methodist University carded a 13-over to remain in first place, 23-strokes ahead of Huntingdon College.
Freshman Samuli Ahvenoja shot a 13-over-78 to pace the Cougars. Ahvenoja currently sits in a tie for 14th heading into the last day of competition. Freshman Victor Hole and junior Marc Wallstedt each shot a 22-over, while freshman Johan Arwedahl recorded a 24-over-par 86. Sophomore Tuomas Tyry rounded out the scoring for Averett with a 29-over.
Methodist's Larkin Gross currently sits in first place, firing a 1-under. He sits two strokes ahead of teammate Jackson Collier.
Averett concludes the three-round tournament tomorrow.
