LAGRANGE, Ga. — Averett University men's basketball senior
Charles Bryant scored 21 points and junior
James Contreras Jr. added 20 points, but it wasn't enough as LaGrange College defeated the Cougars 92-77 in USA South Conference play on Saturday.
Averett (3-11, 1-2 USA South) held a 14-13 lead with 13:01 to play in the first half before LaGrange (8-7, 1-3 USA South) used a 13-2 run to take control midway through the first half. The Panther led 43-36 at halftime.
The first-half deficit was too much to overcome as LaGrange built on its lead early in the second half and extended its advantage to double figures.
In addition to a team-high 21 points, Bryant added nine rebounds. Sophomore
Austin DeLucia chipped in 11 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, off the bench. As a team, Averett shot 51 percent from the field.
