DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University basketball team ran past Methodist University with a 68-55 conference win on Saturday afternoon at the Grant Center to stretch its win-streak to five.

Averett (10-4, 3-0 USA South) started the game with an 8-0 lead and led by as much as 12 midway through the third quarter to pull away from the Monarchs. Methodist (2-11, 0-2 USA South) began to close the gap early in the fourth period, but the Cougars went on a 12-4 run to gain a 16-point advantage with 4:29 to go in regulation before closing out the game.

Junior shooting guards
Frida Lundquist and
Samm Chandler led Averett's offense with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Chandler also added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Sophomore guard
Alixis Roccia finished with seven points and a career-high nine rebounds.

Averett returns to action of Sunday, Jan. 15 to host N.C. Wesleyan College at the Grant Center at 2 p.m. It will be the Cougars' last home game before playing five games on the road.
