STAUNTON, Va. — The Averett University women's basketball team cruised to a 90-50 victory over Mary Baldwin University on Saturday afternoon.
 
Averett (11-6, 4-2 USA South) scored 32 points in the second quarter to give the Cougars a commanding 51-20 lead over Mary Baldwin (2-13, 0-4 USA South) at halftime. Freshman guard 
Stacey Marriott snagged two consecutive steals early in the second quarter to help spark an Averett run. Marriott finished with a season-high of 10 points.
 
Junior guard 
Frida Lundquist paced Averett with 11 points as guards 
Alixis Roccia and 
Brooke Carthon followed with 10 points apiece. Carthon scored all 10 of her points in the first half.
Stats were not immediately available.
 
Averett returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 22 as it travels to Ferrum College for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
