FERRUM, Va. — The Averett University men's soccer team wrapped up the 2017 season with a 1-1 draw at Ferrum College. Sophomore
Austin Bramhall made nine saves in the effort.
The Panthers wasted no time in grabbing the lead, as Ferrum scored in the second minute of the match. Keith Ricks tallied his first goal of the season to give his team the early lead. Ferrum edged Averett in shots throughout the rest of the first half 6-5, but neither team could strike the scoreboard.
The Cougars came out of the halftime break in attack mode as they created more scoring opportunities than Ferrum in the first 15 minutes of the period. However, the Panthers would get their offensive rhythm back and control the pace of the play until the Cougars tied the match at one in the 81
st minute of play. Senior
Tobias Andreasson registered his fifth goal of the year to bring the match level. Each side would produce a couple of more chances, but to no avail and the game entered overtime.
Freshman
Nademe Tokhli and junior
David Cuperman would each test Derek Thomas, the Ferrum goalkeeper, but Thomas was up to the challenge as he kept Averett off the scoreboard in the first overtime period.
Sophomore
Austin Bramhall made three crucial saves in the second overtime to help preserve the draw for the Cougars.
After the match against Ferrrum, the Cougars conclude the 2017 season.
