ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Averett University women's basketball team coasted to a 82-59 conference win over N.C. Wesleyan College on Friday night at Everrett Gym.
Averett (3-2, 1-0 USA South) gained an early 16-9 advantage over N.C. Wesleyan to set the pace of the game in the first quarter, and maintained a 22-point lead at halftime.
After the break, N.C. Wesleyan (2-5, 1-2 USA South) scored 29 points over the Cougars to bring the game to 57-46 at the end of the third quarter. Senior guard Samm Chandler and junior guard Brooke Carthon kept Averett in the game each scoring six points apiece. In the fourth quarter the Cougars responded to the Wesleyan outburst by dominating the boards
Averett shot nearly 50 percent from the field and also outrebounded the Bishops 60-41.
Chandler has a new season high of 26 points, she also move into third for Averett's Top-10 scorers and finished with 13 rebounds. . Carthon followed with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Averett returns to action on Sunday, December 10, when it travels to Greensboro College for a conference matchup at 2 p.m.
