GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College defeated the Averett University baseball team 4-0 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at McBane Field.

Both defenses held their opponents to zero up through the second inning, but Guilford (6-2) posted two runs in the bottom of the third. The Quakers' Rocco Wilcox doubled down the left line to bat in two runners to give Guilford a 2-0 advantage.

Averett (1-6) got off a few hits but Guilford continued to answer, allowing the Quakers to maintain the lead and score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Cougars did manage to get on base with six hits.

Hunter Ashworth led the Cougars, finishing 2-for-4 from the plate.

The Cougars return to the field when they begin conference play at N.C. Wesleyan College. The first of the three-game series is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 24 at 2:30 p.m.
