The Averett University men's basketball team opens play in the USA South Conference Tournament Thursday when the top-seeded Cougars battle No. 8 seed Covenant College at 7 p.m. in Averett's Grant Center.

Averett is the host of this year's tournament. All four quarterfinal matchups will be played Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Averett (11-14, 9-5 USA South) earned the No. 1 seed and a share of the USA South's regular season title after beating Maryville College 87-80 last Saturday. For more on Averett's matchup with Covenant, check out our game notes here.
