ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Methodist University scored five unanswered runs to down Averett University 7-2 in USA South Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon.

Averett (1-7, 0-2 USA South) erased an early two-run deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. With two on and two out, sophomore Matt Tuggle's single through the right side brought home senior Hunter Ashworth for the Cougars' first run. Junior Bradley Tickle followed with an RBI single through the left side to score sophomore A.J. Hart and tie the game at 2-2.

N.C. Wesleyan (7-1, 2-0 USA South), however, regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame with the help of an error that eventually allowed a run to score on a fielder's choice.

The Bishops tacked on another run in the seventh and three more insurance runs in the eighth to pull away to their second win over the Cougars in as many days.

N.C. Wesleyan's offense totaled 14 hits.

Tuggle, Tickle and sophomore Ross Jackson accounted for Averett's three hits.

Averett and N.C. Wesleyan finish their three-game series on Sunday.
