Box Score DANVILLE, Va. – Tufts University defeated the Averett University baseball team 10-1 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Owen-Fulton Field.
 
Tufts (5-0) posted three runs in the bottom of the first to get out to a positive start behind the Jumbos Casey Santos single to right field giving them a 3-0 lead.
 
The Jumbos continued to add on to their scoring with one run in the second inning and four runs in the third inning. Averett (5-19) did not let that get them down scoring one run on sophomore Matt Tuggle's double through the left side making the score (8-1). Tufts continued to answer scoring two more runs in the ninth to complete the game.
 
Freshman Chase McKinney led the Cougars with three hits, senior Trey Wall and sophomore Corey Wall each had two hits. Tuggle and junior Dallas Smithers each had one hit apiece.
 
Averett returns to action on Friday when the Cougars travel to Greensboro College for a three-game series.
