Box Score DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University baseball team suffers loss to William Peace University on Sunday 5-1 in its series finale at Owen-Fulton Field.
Averett's (8-23, 3-12 USA South) senior
Cody Johnson and William Peace (15-18, 6-9 USA South) Luke Westmoreland battled in a pitching duel up to the sixth inning. The Pacers broke the tie in the top of the sixth behind Mikey Anerton's single to right center scoring one of the two runs in that half inning.
The Cougars responded in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman
Chase McKinney laid down a sacrifice bunt to score freshman
Hunter LePrell cutting William Peace lead in half 2-1. The Pacers added three more runs to their score in the eighth and ninth innings of the game to give them the win.
