Meador's overtime goal lifts women's soccer in overtime past Emory & Henry

DANVILLE, Va. — Freshman Emily Meador made her collegiate debut a memorable one. The midfielder scored in overtime, giving the Averett University women's soccer team a 1-0 thrilling overtime non-conference win against Emory & Henry College on Friday night.

Averett (1-0) and Emory & Henry (0-1) played neck and neck defense for the majority of the game with the Wasps goalie Kayla Wright leading the way with 10 saves on the night. After both squads completed regulation play scoreless, the Cougars tried to end the game even earlier in overtime.

Averett senior Christine Harris took the first shot but Wright was able to make a save on it. With about four minutes left in overtime Harris found an open Meador ahead with a pass, and Meador took over with a shot to the back of the net to get the Cougars the golden goal.

Averett returns to action on Sunday when it travel to St. Mary's City, Maryland, to take on St. Mary's College at 3:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
