DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball cruised to an easy 3-0 victory over Mary Baldwin University to begin USA South Conference play Wednesday at the Grant Center. The Cougars topped the winless Squirrels 25-3, 25-8, 25-7.
Averett (11-2, 1-0 USA South) hit .426 as a team as 17 Cougars saw action in the win. Sophomore
Brianna Williams led the charge in the first set with six kills. Seniors
Lexi Rosenbaum and
Jordyn Minton each had five kills over the final two sets, and freshman
Whitney Wood added a team-high 10 digs. Junior
Emily Stanley notched 10 serbice aces and senior
Hannah Shields totaled six service aces, while junior
Kaleigh Steelman and freshman
McKenzie Miller each had three aces for the Cougars, who finished off Mary Baldwin (0-12, 0-1 USA South) in less than an hour.
Averett turns its attention to non-conference foe Bridgewater College. The Cougars and Eagles face off Friday at 7 p.m. at the Grant Center.
