Game Notes: Averett vs. N.C. Wesleyan (PDF)
The Series: Averett is 3-11 all-time against N.C. Wesleyan, including a 2-5 mark in games on the road in Rocky Mount. However, the Cougars and Bishops have split their last two meetings, with N.C. Wesleyan winning last year 21-15 in Danville.
Averett at a Glance: The Cougars face another tough road test on Saturday. Averett has won two in a row following last week's 38-14 victory at LaGrange College. Averett's passing game was dominant against the Panthers as junior quarterback Jacob Wright tossed four touchdowns and was named the USA South Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The defense also played well, limiting LaGrange to just one touchdown in the first half and kept the Panthers off the scoreboard again until two seconds left in the game when it was out of reach. Three Cougars had five-tackle days, including freshman defensive end Joseph Ledbetter, who was named the USA South Defensive Rookie of the Week on Monday for the second consecutive time.
N.C. Wesleyan at a Glance: The Battling Bishops eased past Greensboro College 38-0 last weekend. N.C. Wesleyan used a balanced offensive attack to accumulate 430 total offensive yards while the defense limited the Pride to 191 yards, including just 12 net yards rushing.
