GREENSBORO, N.C. — In its regular season finale, the Averett University women's soccer team lost, 5-0, on the road against the undefeated Greensboro Pride.
Greensboro (16-0, 7-0 USA South) controlled possession throughout the game, outshooting Averett (5-11, 3-4 USA South) 22-2 on the game.
The Pride got going quickly with a goal in the third minute of the game from Natalie Habich. Alexis Chase followed that up with her 16th goal of the season in the 19th minute of play. In the 30th minute of play, Samantha Whipp piled on with Greensboro's third goal of the half to expand the lead, 3-0, which it would maintain until halftime.
The Pride added two more goals in the second half to run away with the game from there. Seniors
Eimear Reddin and
Irania Ventura notched the team's lone shots, while senior
Bailee Brown had three saves in goal.
While this was the last regular season game of the year for Averett, it is still a lock for the USA South Conference tournament with a good opportunity to host. We will have updates once we know the seeding for the tournament.
