MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Averett University volleyball split during its USA South Conference trimatch on Saturday. The Cougars took down host Pfeiffer University 3-1 after dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker to William Peace University in five sets earlier in the day.
To finish the day, Averett (13-11, 9-5 USA South) defeated Pfeiffer (8-16, 4-9 USA South) 25-19, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-14. Sophomore
Myka Patterson totaled eight kills and four total blocks while hitting .429 for the Cougars, who got a team-high 10 kills and seven digs from sophomore
Brooke Aaron. Sophomore
McKenzie Miller added eight kills, 22 assists and five digs. Senior
Keenan Marks, junior
Madison Dadez and freshman
Zamyiah Mangum each had six kills. Marks finished 18 assists, while senior
Emily Stanley had seven digs. Dadez also totaled five blocks.
The Cougars were coming off a tough, five-set loss to William Peace (20-5, 12-1 USA South), which won 19-25, 25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 15-13. Averett led 13-9 in the final frame, but William Peace won the last six points to steal it.
Dadez and Aaron led the attack with 11 kills and 10 kills, respectively. Aaron also had 10 digs. Mangum and junior
Abby Taylor had nine kills. Miller totaled 28 assists, Marks had 21 assists and Stanley had 17 digs.
Averett returns to action on Tuesday when the Cougars travel to Methodist University for a 7 p.m. match.
