DANVILLE, Va. — Three Cougars scored in double figures but Averett University men's basketball fell 75-56 in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Grant Center.
After a tight start to the first half, Guilford (3-2) used a 14-2 run late in the first half to build a 36-24 lead over Averett (0-3) by halftime. The Cougars pulled within 10 at the start of the second period before the Quakers rattled off a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to extend their lead.
Junior
Vince Contreras scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in the first half, while freshman
Isaiah Jones netted a career-high 13 points with nine rebounds and three steals for the Cougars. Senior
Jalen Burnett added 10 points and five rebounds, while sophomore
Harrison Cochran finished with six points, five boards and a team-best four assists.
Guilford shot better than 43 percent from the floor, including 11 made 3-pointers.
Averett travels to non-conference rival Ferrum College on Sunday at 2 p.m. for its first road test.
