The Series: Averett is 5-7 all-time against Longwood, formerly a Division III school, dating back to the 1976-77 season (Note: This does record not include Longwood's 79-53 win over Averett on Nov. 14, 2014, which was an exhibition for the Cougars but the season opener for Longwood). Longwood won the last meeting, 86-67, on Dec. 14, 2016, in Farmville. Averett is 2-7 in road games at Longwood, including that meeting in 2014 that was only an exhibition for the Cougars.
Averett at a Glance: Averett is fresh off a 94-77 home win over USA South Conference foe Pfeiffer University on Tuesday, giving the Cougars their first win of the season. Averett had four players score in double figures, as well as three players who totaled nine points each. Junior Timothy Henry had a career-high 18 points and junior Vince Contreras notched his second career double-double of 15 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. In that win, Averett outrebounded Pfeiffer 52-19 while setting season-highs in points (94), field goal percentage (56.1 percent), rebounds (52) and assists (18).
Longwood at a Glance: The Division I Lancers had their two-game win streak halted with an 80-71 road loss at Duquesne University on Sunday. Longwood is averaging 65.8 points per game while shooting better than 41 percent with a plus-4.6 rebounding margin.
