FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Averett University men's lacrosse team fell 21-0 at Methodist University on Saturday.
 
The freshmen trio of 
Jordan Wigington, 
Brenner Woodcock, and 
Keshawn Downing led Averett (0-7, 0-4 USA South) in ground balls with each player recording four. Freshman 
Joonas Mattila led the team with two caused turnovers in addition to to registering five shots and two ground balls. Freshman 
Jacob Shriver made 12 saves in net.
 
In the first nine minutes of play, Methodist (4-5, 2-1 USA South) jumped out to a 5-0 lead forcing a timeout from head coach 
Anthony Mackin. Out of the timeout, the Monarchs committed a penalty giving the Cougars an extra-man opportunity. Unfortunately, Averett could not convert on this opportunity as Methodist went on to add four more goals to increase their lead to 9-0 by the end of the first quarter.
 
From here, the Monarchs scored six goals in the second quarter, one goal in the third and five in the fourth for the 21-0 victory.
 
Averett returns to action on Saturday, March 31, when the Cougars travel to take on Brevard College. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
