RALEIGH, N.C. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team fell 27-5 at Meredith College on Wednesday evening.

Meredith (10-3,7-0 USA South) got out to an early lead in the first half when Maria Codispoti scored the seventh goal. Averett (8-6, 3-5 USA South) would answer back when senior
Alixis Roccia scored her 39th goal of the season to get the Cougars on the board. Freshman
Elizabeth Peasley would follow at the 24:02 mark scoring her 54th goal of the season to give the score of 7-2. Roccia would score her second goal of the game to help her team cut down the Avenging Angels lead. Although the Cougars began to make a comeback Meredith would put up four more points to extend its lead by eight. Peasley would score her second goal at the 21:24 mark to bring the Cougar total to four goals. Meredith would continue to score in the remainder of the half to bring its total to 22-4 at halftime.

In the second half the Cougars defense held Meredith to only five goals. Peasley would complete a hat trick at the 18:25 mark earning her 56th goal of the season. Unfortunately, the Cougars could not keep the momentum going, as Meredith would go on to win, 27-5.

Peasley finished with three goals and Roccia had two goals to complete the scoring for Averett.

Averett returns to action on Wednesday, April 4, when the Cougars return home to face Hollins University at 7 p.m.
