DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University softball team swept Greensboro College in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Field. The Cougars defeated the Pride 8-1 in the first game and 3-0 in the second.

Averett (18-20) got on the board first in the first inning when senior
Amanda Wright tripled to center field scoring sophomore Kaitlyn Aherron in Game 1. In the third inning the Cougars would score two more runs including sophomore Nicole Cauthen's  single to left center scoring Wright extending the teams lead to 3-0. The scoring continued for Averett in the fourth inning collecting three runs, two of those runse came when Aherron homered to right field scoring two giving the score of 6-0.

Greensboro (16-22) scored its only run of the game in the sixth inning on a single down the left field line. The scoring did not stop for the Cougars as they would score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning from freshman Ashley Carbajal's double down the left field line to bring her teams total to 8.Â

Carbajal and Cook led the Cougars with two hits apiece. Aherron and Carbajal each had four RBI's collectively. Aherron would get the win in the pitching circle.

In Game 2, the Cougars scored first on Wright's double to left center scoring Aherron. The Pride held Averett until the sixth inning where the Cougars scored two more to complete the game 3-0.

Aherron, Wright, and Cook had the only three hits by the Cougars. Freshman Dani Kahn will get the win holding the Pride to only three hits

Averett returns to action on April 13, when it travels to LaGrange, Georgia to face Piedmont College in the USA South Conference Tournament at 10 a.m.Â
