WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Averett University women's lacrosse won its program's single-season record 10th game with an 18-8 conference victory at Salem College on Sunday afternoon.
The win surpassed the old record of nine victories set in 2006 during the first era of Averett women's lacrosse. More importantly, however, was that the win clinched a spot in the USA South Conference Tournament for the Cougars. Averett (10-7, 4-5 USA South) earned the No. 6 seed and will travel to play No. 3 seed Methodist University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Although Averett trailed Salem (2-14, 1-8 USA South) early, the Cougars rattled off eight consecutive goals midway through the first period to help Averett take a 12-5 lead into halftime. The Cougars opened the second half with four goals in the first five minutes to extend their lead to 16-5.
Freshman
Elizabeth Peasley, who set the program's single-season goals record last game, continued her strong rookie season with a team-high eight goals — one shy of the program's single-game record. Senior

Rachel Hale had three goals. Freshmen
Lindsey Bateman,
