DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball saw its 41-match win streak in USA South Conference regular season competition come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Meredith College on Wednesday night at the Grant Center. The Avenging Angels won 25-11, 25-14, 25-19.
Averett (4-6, 0-1 USA South) fell behind 2-0 in the match after dropping the first two sets to Meredith (6-3, 1-0 USA South). The Cougars found some momentum in the third set. Down 18-11, Averett pilled within 19-18. Ahead 21-19, Meredith won the final four points to earn the conference victory in both teams' USA South opener.
The loss was Averett's first against a conference team during the regular season since Oct. 10, 2015. The Cougars won their final 10 regular season matches in the USA South that season, went 15-0 in 2016 and 16-0 in 2017 during league play in the regular season.

Emily Stanley's 14 digs and sophomore
McKenzie Miller's 19 assists.
Averett travels to play conference foe N.C. Wesleyan College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
