MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Averett University men's soccer team dropped their first conference match of the season at Maryville College on Saturday, 4-0.
Averett (2-5-1) tested the Maryville (4-2) goalkeeper early in the match as freshman
Leevi Partanen put a header on goal in the third minute that was saved. From here, the action was back and forth until the 27
th minute when Bret Thomas struck twine to give his team the 1-0 lead. At this point, the Scots took control of the rest of the half limiting Averett's scoring chances while adding another goal in the 42
nd minute to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Maryville kept the momentum going into the opening minutes of the second half as they extended their lead to four with goals in the 56
th and 59
th minutes of play. Freshman

Nademe Tokhli would each come up with scoring chances late in the match but could convert on their opportunities. Maryville held on for the 4-1 victory.
The Cougars return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 26, when they host William Peace University for a conference tilt. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
